Basque Country

The industrial character of the Basque economy has set the Industrial Policy as the backbone of the Basque Government’s actions on competitiveness. Science, Technology and Innovation policy in the Basque Country has a track record of more than 30 years with continuity in terms of major objectives.

Advanced Manufacturing, Energy and Biosciences have already been set as the first choice for the key priority areas for scientific, technological and industrial development.

Complementary to these vertical strategic priorities, a number of potential emergingniches linked to the region have been proposed. These activities are skills, scientificknowledge and business experience, with a high degree of application to domesticdemand, mainly the government.

Thus, the agri-food industry has been indentified as an opportunity niche, more precisely in the next fields:

  • Regulations and food security
  • Innovation and technology applied to food products and processes
  • Sustainability of the food chain
  • Aquaculture
  • Gastronomy and catering industry
